About Switching Made Simple
We are a UK business energy broker with a deliberately narrow remit: business gas and business electricity. Nothing else. We exist because comparing business energy properly takes market access, time and a willingness to explain the awkward parts — three things most small businesses do not have going spare.
Who we are
Switching Made Simple Ltd is an independent business energy broker working with companies across the United Kingdom. Our customers are mostly the kind of business where nobody's job description includes energy procurement: cafés, salons, independent retailers, workshops, small offices, guest houses and small multi-site operators.
Our job is straightforward to describe and less straightforward to do well. We take your meter details and usage once, request live prices from the suppliers who will genuinely compete for a business like yours, explain what each contract actually commits you to, and arrange the switch if you decide to go ahead. Then we keep a note of your end date and come back to you before it arrives.
How we started
The company was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, at a point when a very large number of UK businesses were looking hard at every line of their overheads. Energy was consistently one of the biggest, and consistently one of the least understood. Business owners were being sent renewal letters they had no way of assessing, and cold-called by brokers who would not explain how they were paid.
What became obvious quickly was that the information gap was the real problem. Most businesses were not paying too much because they had negotiated badly — they were paying too much because they had never been given the means to negotiate at all. So the company was built around closing that gap: whole-of-market access, plain explanations, and complete transparency about how the broker earns.
That has not changed as we have grown. The service is still a conversation, not a call centre script.
How we're different
It would be dishonest to pretend energy broking has a spotless reputation. Plenty of business owners have been burned by a broker who quoted a headline rate with an undisclosed uplift buried inside it, or who signed them onto a five-year term without making the length clear, or who simply vanished the moment the contract went live. That distrust is earned, and we do not expect to be exempt from it by default.
What we can do is behave differently and be checkable about it. We tell you what our commission is before you sign. We do not use artificial deadlines or expiring-offer pressure — where a quote genuinely lapses because wholesale prices moved, we say so and re-request it. We quote against your real meter and usage rather than a convenient average. And if the best available option is to renew with your existing supplier, we will tell you that even though it is the least interesting outcome for us.
We also stay in our lane. We do not broker water, waste, telecoms or anything else, because bolting on products we do not understand properly would make us worse at the one thing we do.
Our promise
Four commitments, in the order they matter:
- Transparent commission — you see what the supplier pays us before you agree to anything.
- No supplier favouritism — we are independent of every supplier we quote, and the recommendation follows the numbers.
- Plain English — unit rate, standing charge, term length and conditions explained together, without acronym soup.
- No pressure — no countdown timers, no manufactured urgency, and no chasing you if you tell us to stop.
Alongside those, renewal reminders are treated as part of the core service rather than an extra. We record your contract end dates and contact you in good time, because the single most expensive thing a business can do with its energy is let a contract lapse quietly onto out-of-contract rates. If you would rather not hear from us, say so once and we will remove you from reminders.
Green energy, on your terms
We offer renewable business electricity tariffs to any customer who wants them, and we explain what is actually being certified rather than leaning on the word green. We do not steer you toward a particular supplier's green product, and we will show you the standard equivalent alongside it so you can see the real premium, if there is one.

About us: your questions
Are you a supplier or a broker?
A broker. We do not generate, supply or bill for energy. We compare business gas and electricity contracts across the market, explain the options and arrange the contract with the supplier you choose.
Are you tied to any particular supplier?
No. We are not owned by, or contractually tied to, any supplier, and we do not have a preferred supplier we push. Which suppliers quote your supply depends on your usage, meter type, region and credit profile.
How do you make money?
The supplier whose contract you sign pays us a commission, which is included in the unit rate you are quoted. We tell you the amount before you commit. You never pay us directly.
Do you cover anything other than gas and electricity?
No, and that is deliberate. Business gas and business electricity, including renewable electricity tariffs, is the whole of what we do.
Ready to see what your business energy should cost?
Two minutes to tell us about your supply. Whole-of-market quotes, no obligation, no pressure.
